How to Get Music Festival Volunteer Jobs This Summer

There are a lot of reasons why working at a music festival is a good idea, and only one of them involves getting into the concert for free. Check out why working at a festival this summer is a great way to get ahead in your events jobs career and why it’s more than worth working for free.

Summer music festivals are put on all over the globe especially between May and September. Some of the larger events include Bonnaroo, Coachella, and the Glastonbury Music Festival. The calendar is extensive.

1. Concert Event Access

Some of the best ways to find work at a music festival is through volunteering. Sure, getting paid for the hours you’re at the festival is more appealing than working for free, but finding paid positions with minimal work experience can be difficult. Music festivals however, almost always need volunteers. Even though event volunteers might not get the coolest jobs like putting up the stage or helping the band, the jobs volunteers do perform are important for the success of the festival. Of course, the biggest perk of all is that by working a shift as a volunteer, you gain free access to the concert. What could be better then seeing your favorite bands for free? Although most event planning companies require volunteers to work a shift in order to see the show, for some of the bigger festivals, there is more than enough time to complete your shift and still enjoy the concert. Become a volunteer and gain free access to your favorite summer concerts!

Seven Sights to See With the Kids This Summer

Summer, at least in the eyes of Austin school children, is just around the corner. Summer temperatures are already being felt and hot afternoons seem to stretch out longer in the summer. Fortunately, fun ways to entertain the whole family abound in the Austin area.

Zilker Park Hillside Theater – Pack a picnic dinner and head to the Zilker Park Hillside Theater for an evening of memorable entertainment. For over 50 years Austinites have headed to the grassy hillside above the Barton Springs Pool to bring a little culture to the warm summer nights. “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” runs through May; Ballet Under the Stars with Austin Metamorphosis Dance Ensemble is the featured show in June; and “Annie” is the summer musical in July and August. Alcohol is not allowed, but quiet dogs on leashes are welcome. Bring blankets or low chairs to enjoy the show.

Schlitterbahn Waterpark Resort – What better way to beat the heat than getting soaked at Schlitterbahn Waterpark Resort south of Austin in New Braunfels. The park has three different sections, with a free tram running between them. From water coasters to tube chutes to water playgrounds, there is something for every age level. The park can get pretty packed in the summer, but a discounted rate is offered after 3 p.m. to enjoy the park until the 8 p.m. closing time.

Hamilton Pool Preserve – West of Austin is an idyllic preserve of endangered species, wildflowers and a 50 foot waterfall. Hamilton Pool Preserve is where the Pedernales River meets Hamilton Creek to flow over limestone rocks. Birds, plants and other creatures are protected here by Travis County, the City of Austin, The Nature Conservancy, the Lower Colorado River Authority, and the Travis Audubon Society. Bring the family to swim in the pool, explore and picnic.

Summer Camp – Fun Unlimited

Summer comes and those sweet kids await eagerly to go to a summer camp! Campers have a gala time hiking, canoing, and dancing around the campfire. According to the American Camp Association (ACA), over 10 million kids attend summer camps every year. A summer camp can be trip full of adventure and fun. However, as parents, we should ensure that our kids attend the right summer camps, and that their health is not compromised.

While most kids get excited at the sheer mention of the words ‘summer camp’, some others get goose bumps due to home sickness. How can we prepare our kids to stay away from home in such a situation? Camps are of various types- music, arts, sports, computers and nature. Different children have different interests. While a particular child would show interest in going to a sports camp, another might opt for a computers camp.

The idea is to get to know your child better. Understanding his interests would help you select the right type of camp. Budget, without doubt, is an important factor. There are four factors that you must consider before selecting a camp during summer vacations- Nature of camp, track record of the company organizing the camp, safety, and budget.
